MINISTER Mentor Lee Kuan Yew has accepted an offer to join the international advisory board of a newly established business school in the Russian capital.

He joins an international panel of experts in the fields of business, science, politics and arts in advising Skolkovo, the Moscow School of Management.

The school's president, Mr Ruben Vardanian, said Mr Lee's leadership skills, experience in emerging markets and broad international perspective are closely aligned with the school's global vision.

'It's a big coup for us, for the school, as well as Russia because it's a global business school. We're very glad to have him on board,' he told The Straits Times.

Skolkovo was established in September last year by 14 major investors, with the aim of creating a modern business school to compete globally.

It will focus on developing leadership and entrepreneurial skills, with special attention to the rapidly growing economies of Brazil, Russia, India and China.

Mr Lee's appointment was announced following a business education round-table organised by Skolkovo and the Singapore Management University at the latter's campus yesterday.

The round-table was held in conjunction with the second Russia-Singapore Business Forum, generating an exchange of ideas and insight into the changing nature of business education and the challenges of building a top global business school.
