Why 'Minister Mentor'?

The Straits Times, March 31, 2007

'In 2004, the new Prime Minister, who is my son, took over. He was deputy prime minister for 14 years. He was under pressure to show he was in charge, especially if I stayed in Cabinet.

The last prime minister took over my job as senior minister and, to make clear that I am not setting policy and am just acting as a mentor, I became the Minister Mentor, which suits me fine.

Call me what you like, a rose by any other name.'
MM LEE in response to an Australian lawyer who asked about his title of Minister Mentor
