VALERIO Maioli has over 40 years of experience in industrial and motor-sport telecommunications and lighting systems.

The Singapore Grand Prix lighting consultant has designed race-track systems for the French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours and the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona.

These systems include closed-circuit televisions and race-control rooms for the two Formula One race circuits.

The 60-year-old's links with F1 stretch over 25 years. From 1981 to 1995, he was Ferrari's telecommunications consultant.

The Italian gave a press briefing yesterday on the night lighting system for next year's inaugural Singapore GP, should approval be granted to stage the race at night.

'We are delighted to be given this fantastic opportunity to be a part of such a historic event,' said Maioli.

He has been developing the lighting system since last year, after being approached by F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.
