PAS calls on Johoreans to block IDR project

The Straits Times, October 31, 2007

PASIR GUDANG (JOHOR) - THE opposition Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) has distributed 100,000 booklets to Johoreans urging them to block the implementation of the Iskandar Development Region Project, according to the latest issue of the party newsletter Harakah.

'Give PAS the mandate to govern Johor or send more Barisan Alternative (opposition) delegates to the Johor State Assembly,' PAS Youth head Salahuddin Ayub was quoted as saying at the launch of the booklet recently.

Entitled Between Dream And Reality, the booklet on the IDR was written by PAS vice-president Husam Musa.

Datuk Husam said the booklet was aimed at making Johoreans aware of the risks they would face if the IDR projects went ahead.

Charging that Umno leaders easily sold off national assets 'for the sake of money', Datuk Husam told Johoreans that one day their territory could be sold off to 'foreign powers'.
